It all began in the autumn of 2007, shortly after the publication of Concentric Circles, when Elma Harder and Dr. Muzaffar Iqbal asked the principal of Argyll Home Learning Center if he would be interested in starting an enrichment strand of home learning based on the philosophy of education outlined in Concentric Circles.

Conversations became concrete proposal and an 8-week Doorways to Islamic Civilization event was planned.
